Parallel construction “making ignition..” and “causing flames..”, also the use of Gerund vs Infinitive.
Gerund used in A and E i.e spreading while C and D used infinitive i.e “to spread”, Gerund an active form of verb which is used to mean something has happened successfully or actions which are completed. Gerunds are used often for actions which are real, concrete or completed. (I stopped smoking) Infinitives are used for actions that are unreal, abstract or in future (I stopped to smoke)
